Just want to update people on what myself and others at KeepNTLimitFree have been up to.
I have been working very hard behind the scenes in conjunction with KeepNTLimitFree collecting reasearch from all over the place to disprove some of the myths that were perpetuated in the Road Safety Taskforce Report last year, which is available for viewing on this website under the tab Government Report.
KeepNTLimitFree have uncovered a lot of great stuff and we are very confident that we will succeed in eventually getting the highways that were formerly unrestricted re-instated.
Unfortunately as much as we would dearly love to inform everybody of what we have uncovered we cannot because it would give the game away. A report we are producing is an ongoing work in progress and at this stage we cannot say when it will be finalised.
There is more research to be done, more statistics to calculate, more verification of facts to be done and lastly more work to be done on the presentation. We want the report to be both factually correct and as concise as possible. Also, everybody at KeepNTlimitFree are volunteers who work full time meaning that as mcuh as we would like to get finished asap we cannot because of time constraints. Plus, KeepNTLimitFree is a non-profit organisation with limited means which also restricts the data we can get our hands on.
At this stage I would like supporters to know that we have uncovered a few bombshells that will undoubtedly rock the government and which will also make non supporters of our cause think strongly about changing their vote away from the ALP at the next NT election.
The revelation of our report has to be timed perfectly for maximum impact and fortunately the people behind KeepNTLimitFree are extremely trustworthy because nothing I have uncovered has been leaked to the public.
When we make our findings public the Martin Government will wonder what hit them!
Gecks
So true and when the public realise to the full extent of the lies it will shock the nation.
I certainly hope so.
Please all supporters out there, keep the faith. We truly do have some information that will astound you and like I said, I do believe we will win.
Be patient because patience reaps rewards.
Cheers
Yes, we understand your frustration and I also read your post on fatigue - that was a pretty horrific story, it's amazing she survived, what with no water and the like.
I will be meeting with Terry Mills MLA, one of the CLP people, later today to discuss some of our findings. We will of course hold our cards close to our chest and I will not be giving Terry a hardcopy of what I have uncovered so far, not because I don't trust him, but sometimes things make their way into the public domain.(Eg his secretary might see it on his desk, or his wife, or kid and decide to copy it). I trust Terry 100%, I know him reasonably well, but sometimes things happen that are out of your control.
We are slowly getting to the bottom of uncovering the truth but every time I think we are almost finished I discover I need more statistics. And every time we request more statistics the longer the whole process takes.
I might add that the people at the Taskforce Hotline are extremely helpful with getting what we need and they have always delivered by the target date they set. In fact, they have never rejected a request, they have never asked what I am doing with all the stuff I have requested and never displayed any resistance towards me. Freedom of Information ("FOI") is a wonderful thing.
The next NT election will be in 2009 and for me it cannot come quick enough. Hopefully the tide is startting to turn a bit against Clare and her cronies. They really angered a lot of voters, including ALP voters, when they passed that legislation to allow the Macarthur River mine to proceed, thereby overriding the supreme court in the process. Three of their aboriginal colleagues crossed the floor they were so disgusted.
And with the help of KeepNTLimitFree we will eventually give, not for free, the CLP a leg up at the next election. They need all the help they can get with only the 4 of them up against 19. But no doubt they will get more seats at the next election so that balance is restored. With only the 4 of them they are really stretched for resources and simply cannot do the job properly.
Stay focussed and keep the signatures on the petition rolling in.
Gecks.
Terry was impressed with our work and the relationship with the CLP will be further strengthened. They will do whatever they can to help us with our priority in the short term to get a link on this website to the CLP TV ad that shows Jodeen Carney turning the speed limit from 130 back to unrestricted.
In the meantime we would like to get some help from KeepNTLimitFree in the form of questions to put to the ALP.
Five weeks from now the government will be running an Estimates Committee and at that time the opposition can ask whatever questions they like. The CLP is very happy for us to come up with some questions that they can then put to the government.
So, let's get the ball rolling and ask them some curly ones. If you do not feel like posting your questions on this forum then forward them to the administrator via email. To do this click on "Contact" on this website.
Wouldn't mind a copy of that ad, or have it posted somewhere.
Feedback; - It would be appropriate for one of the jurisdictional governments to take the initiative in creating a requirement for new market vehicle registration, for a single-unit 'hazard-warning triangle'. It would be constructed to the performance requirements of UNECE Transport Regulation 27 and applicable to ADR categories MA, MB, MC. (A Euro/World standard warning device for - cars, vans, 4WD's).
This would have the effect of creating pressure for an eventual national adoption of same. WA achieved similar with its engine immobilizer requirement some years ago. The WA adoption forced a federal move to create a similar ADR requirement!
AS3790 'accepts' the UN Standard as an alternative, and by all accounts the UN standard is the muich better performer in stability and reflex reflector performance.
Ditto requirement that a high-visibility 'safety vest' be supplied in all new market vehicles; - for use at the roadside at breakdowns and crash scenes for MA, MB and MC vehicles to aid in pedestrian safety. These two safety items now form part of a new UN Road Traffic Convention under development and are legally required in EU and China right now.
Keepleft,
We would love to publish what we have or get it out there somehow in the public domain but unfortunately the next NT election is not until 2009, so we don't want to really go hard at the government until closer to the next election. It is very hard for us because we have a few bombshells that we think will rock the NT government and we are literally dying to tell people but we feel it is the right to wait until the time is right.
As stated previously we have unearthed some great stuff and there are a few things that will make them really look bad and/or incompetent.
But as they say good things take time and we have to just be patient. There is also a lot of work to be done and at the moment the research side has come to a halt because of factors beyond our control. Hopefully it will get rolling again in the new financial year. (The problm is that the government department that helps us is busy with campaigns and they have no time at present to help us).
