I totally agree with you, it's absolute bullshit.

There are laws in place which state that pubs and clubs are not supposed to serve alcohol to anyone who is drunk or that they suspect is drunk. Yet every week, or more likely every day in Darwin, people pour out of pubs and clubs drunk.

So, the police obviously do not enforce the law. Of course the police are quite happy to pick up indigenous people on the streets and in the parks who are drunk, but not us whities for some reason.

I have only seen one case where NT police have gone after a pub for serving someone who is drunk an this only came about because the gentleman at the centre of the case tried to drive home and killed himself.

This lockout will not work. All it means is that people cannot enter after 3am. Which means the people still inside can drink themselves stupid until whatever time the club closes.

I reckon the police do not enforce the serving of alcohol laws because the pub and nightclub owners are probably too rich and powerful and they would complain that it would ruin their business, and tourist operators would probably join the chorus.
