Delia Delia Delia
you embecile time has nothing to do with number increase of road deaths no seatbelts and drunkdriving is which still has nothing to do with the Open Speed Limit. Haven't you learnt anything you can be replaced real easy to, don't think your untouchable Claire thought she was but alas where is she now. What a bloody stupid thing to say, Delia has proven again what i already know she is a complete fool and totally incompetent for any political job, she needs to be pressure resigned too. Re: When Road Toll Surpasses Last Years Total Write Letters
One thing which is very obvious is that there is no specific evidence that high speed, driven legally, has contributed to the road toll. What is very obvious, even to someone living out of state like me, is that overloading of vehicles, failure to wear seat belts and to maintain roadworthy vehicles and failure to obey the lawful direction of a police officer are the main causes of the road toll. Even alcohol abuse is not obvious in the material shown - high speed is not even remotely related to the deaths reported in the NT. On the other hand, speeding, i.e. driving too fast for conditions, is not covered under the legislation related to speed limits. Having just driven the Eyre Highway, with the wildlife out after dark, I considered 90 km/hr to be the safe maximum speed - I could avoid animals and brake when needed, safely. During daylight, with far better visibility, I could legally only travel 20 km/hr faster. In the NT, there are many roads where I would challenge anyone to PROVE (not just state) that a far higher speed than 130 is not as safe as travelling at a much higher speed. Note that any reasonable driver will adjust speed to conditions, but on the other hand should not be artificially limited to an arbitrary speed. Policing efforts to enforce seat belts and roadworthy vehicles would be a far better return on investment. As an aside, in the UK it is common to see police ignoring vehicles travelling far faster than a posted speed limit on motorways, yet pulling over drivers of vehicles for changing lanes erratically or otherwise driving unsafely.
