Clare Martin Has Resigned!

Thank God, her reign of terror and incompetence is now over. My birthday is in three days time, so I see this as an early birthday present.

Here's the link to the story.

Good riddance both to yourself and to that other idiot Syd Stirling. That's two down, now all we have to do is remove the ALP from power in 2009!

Re: Clare Martin Has Resigned!

We should all be encouraged by the events of the last few days. The federal election has proved that Australian voters are willing to expel incumbert governments regardless of how well things are going. I can see a parallel between the defeat of the coalition on the federal stage and the up coming issues that will be debated in the Territory in 2009. The issues that I see a connection are the coalitions IR laws and Clares road safety package (or should I say road non safety package). This is not the place to discuss the current and impending IR laws. But history has shown that any polititcion that has tried to change Australians working conditions has been dealt a savage blow from Australian voters. I think that the ALP in the NT will suffer a similar fete. We all know that it will be those above the Berima line that will decide the new NT government in 2009.

They will have a look around at the Territory and see a wonderful water front development, a dieing health system and a vote of no confidence from the AMA, Aboriginal circumstances have gone backwards to the point that the feds felt the need to intervene, new road laws that have taken away sensible road laws and handed us a set of Harold Scruby devised crap, law and order... what law and order????

I believe that Territorians will have a look around and not like what they see. They will say thanks for the wave pool that only tourists can afford to use, and the flash restaurants that only the wealthy can utilize, but as far as the rest of the territory is concerned, they will look around and not like it.

The next election in the NT is there for the taking. But we Territorians need to see a functional and highly visible opposition.

The CLP need to work at 500% to win, but win they can. They need to make the new Cheif ministers life hell!!! They need to expose all the weakness's of the current ALP. And of those there many!!

My forum name is "neveragain". The reason I picked this name is because I was so pissed off with Clare Martin and her cronies when they brought in those mis-guided and politically motivated road laws, I vowed never to vote for the ALP in the Territory again. And at the last election we helped put Matt Comlin into the NT parliment.

There are many that feel like me. We are waiting to enter that little card board booth again!!!

Cheers all.

Great post and when we get these stupid road rules changed it will also send a clear message to the rest of Australia.  Stop limiting our freedoms with laws of NO EVIDENTARY BASE.

Re: Clare Martin Has Resigned!

Link to story in today's NT News. Seems like Clare was told to go, surprise, surprise, because she did not have the support of anyone in the party.

Re: Clare Martin Has Resigned!

I'd be sure that on a personal level, Clare Martin would be quite personable, a nice lady and with professional abilities.  But in politics, contracting this fundamentally flawed, politically correct road safety package was a mistake worthy of resignation in and of itself, even putting aside other Territory issues.

From this point, Henderson will be under determined senior police and academic pressure to continue the program.  Some of the package changes we accept as reasonable, but removal of what is genuinely a safe method of 'speed management', one that directly puts the onus for 'safe-speed' responsibility FULLY onto a driver, the speed derestriction, - was a backward, and quite 'dumb' move.  A speed-limit, applied to high-standard highways takes that safe speed onus and transfers it largely back to the state, - simply by encouraging folk to drive AT the 'limit', when we all know that safe speed is not a constant, and so over time complacency and manners fly out the window, when under such restriction because of a multitude of factors.

The speed derestriction discussion is an important one, and its application is far from over in relation to Australian roads, indeed overseas.  Nothing stops a jurisdictional authority from being creative - to reflect 'realities' such as wildlife that could see daytime derestriction on some highways applied during daylight house, yet speed-limited at night.  That sort of thing.

Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for use at crash scenes and breakdowns, mandatory in Europe, the triangle is used to improve on the warning time given to approaching traffic. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901.

Re: Clare Martin Has Resigned!
Happy Birthday mate good ole Dehlia Lawrie should be the next head on the chopping block i suspect and it will also be self inflicted political suicide. She didn't learn a thing about Claire Martin's forced Resignation it seems, she keeps shooting her mouth off and saying idiotic statements as per usual. That will be the biggest celebration of all besides Claire Martin's departure of course. Keep it up Dehlia your already done anyway, your just to stupid to realize it.
