First red light camera clocks up 1350 fines in a month

This story was in the NT News. Click on the link to read the story.

Territorians, do not be duped by what the government tells you regarding red light statistics in the NT.

We at KeepNTLimitFree, the purveyors of truth, know the real story. Sure a lot of people run red lights in the NT, according to the Taskforce, but they should also know that Territorians know that other Territorians run red lights. Which by the way has something to do with the fact that the lights were programmed in 1878 when the horse and cart was still in use and they do not give motorists a fair go.

When you analyse the statistics from the point of view of fatalities, red light running is not an issue. In the six year period(ie 2000-2005) of the Taskforce, I mean Taskfarce Report, only 6 people were killed due to red light running. This equates to only 1 death per annum. Hardly a big problem, and certainly not worthy of installing red light cameras to fix the problem.

But that's right, it's not about the lives, it's about the revenue. Sorry, I keep forgetting that politicians do not care about the people that elect them, they only care about new and novel ways of ripping off the public to sustain themselves and their ever growing public service.

Even though I support red light camera's in principal, it is when you look at their use in context to the facts you realise that it is all about the money that they can generate for a government that is incompetant at balancing the books.

Once again we see the result of a government thats intent on following the southern trend. Just because they do it, it seems that we must also. They forget that the whole point of road rules is to keep the motoring public safe.
