Darwin Show & Election

The Darwin Show will be held on the 24th, 25th and 26th of July. We want to get another 2500+ signatures on our petition to repeal the 130Km/ph speed limit.

If anyone would like to help hand out flyers or help collect signatures please email us ASAP at admin@KeepNTLimitFree.org

Shortly we will hand over our petition to the CLP for it to be tabled in parliament before the election to so maximize media exposure.  At this time we need as many people as possible to come and put on one of our www.KeepNTLimitFree.org T-Shirts.

Let us send a clear message to the government that we will not be screwed over like the rest of Australia.

For the record the Territory had the lowest incidence of speed related fatalities in Australia, so why did the NT Government introduce speed limits on the open highways?

In November 2004 Dr Chris Burns, the then Minister for Infrastructure and Transport was quoted as saying,” It has been shown that excessive speed is not a dominant factor in the Territory's road toll. Rather, it is a combination of alcohol and a failure to wear passenger restraints that is the root cause of most fatalities on Territory roads".

Furthermore, Paul Toohey a noted journalist had this to say in an article titled "Top End road carnage" on the 6th of October 2004,"NT Chief Minister Clare Martin supports open-speed highways...

Therefore, why did these two change their minds in less than 2 years?

Answer; $1 million in fine revenue last year and a dramatic increase in the road toll.  This is blood money!

Please spread the word as if the ALP get back in then we will see a speed limit of 100km/ph and worst still even more people will die due to fatigue.  Not to mention even more fines and countless other rules and regulations to make our lives more miserable.

Re: Darwin Show & Election
Best of luck with this. I really do hope that there is an under tide of anger in Darwin just waiting for this election.
