At last we made the press!!!

Well done guys.  Harold Scruby really comes across as a real dictator in this article. How dare he presume to think he can over ride the will of the NT electorate!!! I really hope I meet this little turd one day.

Lobby groups in spat over NT speed limits

Posted 17 minutes ago

An anti-speed limit group says excessive speed is not the dominant factor in the Northern Territory road toll.

Territory Opposition Leader Terry Mills says the Country Liberals would repeal speed limit restrictions if elected.

But Keep NT Limit Free spokesman Paul Atkinson says the Government's decision to legislate a speed cap of 130 kilometres an hour is dangerous.

"One third of all fatalities are attributed to fatigue, not speed," he said.

"We've got unique road conditions up here; very long stretches of road. If you are just siting on 100 or 110kph you need to be able to vary your speed to suit the road conditions."

Pedestrian Council of Australia chairman Harold Scrooby says speed limits are sensible.

"This is just hillbilly nonsense and I can assure you if by some chance Mr Mills gets into power, we will go straight to the Federal Government and ask the Federal Government and Mr [Anthony] Albanese to override the Northern Territory."

Re: At last we made the press!!!

I work hard for my money and I need to use the roads and highways constantly. At least the speed limits ensure that I travel fast enough so that I do not kill myself to earn my income.

Following are my comments to this article:

An anti-speed limit group says excessive speed is not the dominant factor in the Northern Territory road toll.

This is true. The idiots who travel with excessive speeds are the dominant factors in the NT's road toll.

Territory Opposition Leader Terry Mills says the Country Liberals would repeal speed limit restrictions if elected.

I hope the CLP will repeal and add to the statistics of the road death due to excessive speed. It's o.k. for Territorians to say we want speed limits abolished but don't forget that we share this land with a lot of other animals native to this land as well as the occasional tourists who may not be experienced with road-rage and hoodlooms. It's only when YOU lose a DEAR-ONE due to excessice speeding that YOU ALL realise how sensible speed limits are.

But Keep NT Limit Free spokesman Paul Atkinson says the Government's decision to legislate a speed cap of 130 kilometres an hour is dangerous.

Paul Atkinson, I think you are dangerous.

"One third of all fatalities are attributed to fatigue, not speed," he said.

Easy! *** STOP, REVIVE, SURVIVE ***

"We've got unique road conditions up here; very long stretches of road. If you are just siting on 100 or 110kph you need to be able to vary your speed to suit the road conditions."

FYI, our roads are not unique. Vary the speed to stay alive, relax and have a Nice Trip.

Pedestrian Council of Australia chairman Harold Scrooby says speed limits are sensible.

FACT.

"This is just hillbilly nonsense and I can assure you if by some chance Mr Mills gets into power, we will go straight to the Federal Government and ask the Federal Government and Mr [Anthony] Albanese to override the Northern Territory."

No need. Simply keep travelling the safe speed.

Re: At last we made the press!!!

If anybody wants to annoy Harold Scruby call, fax or send him an email at:

Tel: (02) 9968 4555 Fax: (02) 9968 4566 email: walking@walk.com.au

Also, you may want to send Harold a friendly text message on (0418) 110-011

Tell Harold you're an NT Hillbilly

For the Record, Mr Scruby is a nobody who heads a group called the Pedestrian Council of Australia, and has no idea about issues on NT roads. Membership to the PCA is impossible, it's just Harold and a bunch of his rich mates, yet they yield incredible power. Why? Don't know, they certainly do not produce any research to back up their wild claims.

Mr Scruby also tells Australia to walk to work and risk damage from harmful exhaust fumes, yet Harold, conveniently, works from home! Nice.

Below is a link to Scruples website showing a letter he and a surgeon wrote to the NT government whereby they blackmailed the government into introducing speed limits on the highway or they take steps to weaken the NT economy. Mr Scruby is a blackmailer with no moral conscience and who has no research to back up his idiotic ideas:

So what your saying is that under speed derestriction, you couldn't TRUST yourself!  Sweet Jesus save me from this loon.

Territory Opposition Leader Terry Mills says the Country Liberals would repeal speed limit restrictions if elected.

Your SPEED-LIMITS have caused INCREASED DEATHS.

But Keep NT Limit Free spokesman Paul Atkinson says the Government's decision to legislate a speed cap of 130 kilometres an hour is dangerous.

Paul Atkinson, I think you are dangerous.

On the contrary, it is NT LABOUR advocates such as yourself who have blood on their hands.  Do not insult the general population by implying that it is incapable of drving safely under speed derestriction (//) when applied to NT's key highways.

"One third of all fatalities are attributed to fatigue, not speed," he said.

Easy! *** STOP, REVIVE, SURVIVE ***

THIS applies REGARDLESS of speed-limit or speed derestriction, the fatigue relationship can work out about the same, BUT (//) can mean less exposure over time to crash events, AND means greater VEHICLE SEPERATION as each 'fans-out'.  A speed-limit is excellent at bunching-up traffic closer to each other.

"We've got unique road conditions up here; very long stretches of road. If you are just siting on 100 or 110kph you need to be able to vary your speed to suit the road conditions."

FYI, our roads are not unique. Vary the speed to stay alive, relax and have a Nice Trip.

ONLY (//) gives the driver the full ability to VARY speed according tyo prevailing conditions.  Speed-limits simply giver drivers SOMETHING TO DRIVE AT - COME WHAT MAY.

[/QUOTE]Pedestrian Council of Australia chairman Harold Scrooby says speed limits are sensible.

FACT.

"This is just hillbilly nonsense and I can assure you if by some chance Mr Mills gets into power, we will go straight to the Federal Government and ask the Federal Government and Mr [Anthony] Albanese to override the Northern Territory."[/QUOTE]

Harold Scruby is well known to Australian Road Authorities, when he's not trying to 'change the flag via AUSFLAG, he's nagging MP's around the country for his ongoing minority causes.  But, he is deadicated to them!

No need. Simply keep travelling the safe speed.

Listen YoYo - You have just argued with Harold Scruby - He is just like you.  Do learn to comprehend will you, now back to ALP HQ for you.

These NT ALP advocates, they really don't think highly of NT people.

Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for use at crash scenes and breakdowns, mandatory in Europe, the triangle is used to improve on the warning time given to approaching traffic. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901.

Re: At last we made the press!!!

Thank you Keepleft  and your well considered response to yoyo.

We would love to have an informed debate with the ALP but they are too scared to talk to us as they know NUMBERS DONT LIE.

Re: At last we made the press!!!

More "experts" telling us that the sky will fall in if the speed limits are raised. Even though all the tangable evidence tells us otherwise.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/07/29/2317667.htm

The Australasian College of Road Safety says any lifting of speed limits on Northern Territory roads will costs lives.

The Country Liberals have pledged to abolish the 130km/ph speed limit introduced by the Labor government .

The President of the College of Road Safety Lauchlan McIntosh has questioned the wisdom of the policy.

"The evidence shows that the human body can only withstand a certain decceleration if you like from a crash and it is certainly only in the 60 to 70 kilometre an hour level, and there is no doubt that crashes at much higher speeds cause death and a lot of serious injuries," he said.

The national road safety body says there should be a greater focus on driver behaviour, to reduce the road toll in the Northern Territory.

38 people have died on Territory roads this year compared to 24 at the same time last year.

Mr McIntosh called for the Territory's roads to be upgraded.

"We have to have safe infrastructure, you can make tremendous difference by building safer roads, you can make a big difference by having people in safer vehicles both cars and trucks and light vehicles," he said.

"You can also do a lot by improving the behaviour of the driver, and you have to have a vision that says that is what we are all going to do together."

Re: At last we made the press!!!

What is it with these so called "road safety experts" in this country. Here we have another example of someone who has no idea about what occurs on NT roads. Between Lauchlan McIntosh & Prof. Brian Fildes, we would be lucky if they had a combined IQ of 50.

So, if you want to text Lauchlan McIntosh and tell him he's not so bright, here's his mobile number:

0418 424 886

(Don't ask me how I do these things. The simple fact is I am very, very, very, very, good at research).
