Vote CLP

At this election we have a clear choice either we go done the path of more southern style restrictive laws with no evidentary base or vote CLP.

Please let us all hope that the CLP win and repeal the 130 speed limit.

The numbers dont lie the truth is the truth.

Re: Vote CLP

The 3 voters in my family have all voted for the CLP. We voted for them for more than just the out of control road toll. They are simply incompetant. But I believe that the ALP will win. Only then will Territorians understand what huge mistake is being made.

God help the Territory.

Should the ALP gain power again which is very precarious I promise you that we will meet with them and explain the facts.

Even by the most conservative demographic models of the electorate we know that over 40% OF THE POPULATION HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS OVER THE INTRODUCTION OF SPEED LIMITS ON OUR PREVIOUSLY UNRESTICTED HIGHWAYS.

Fact: In November 2007 a phone poll conducted by the NT News proved that 94% of the public believed that the introduction of the 130 limit has done nothing to help the road toll.

In a marginalised state that the ALP now face they are in it will be in their best interest to repeal this non evidenced based law.

We need to concentrate our efforts where they are needed most to save lives not to make money.

I promise you and all of our supporters more than 35600 strong this year alone, that we will give them the opportunity to correct their policy failure.  If they cannot understand a science based argument (numbers do not lie) then there is no doubt in my mind they will lose the next election.

My reason for this is simple I know from first hand experience that all of the marginal seats we targeted turned into CLP seats.  If the CLP had been better organised they would have understood this better.  However when an election is called with no notice you can only do so much.

We know what to do now.

Re: Vote CLP

It was awsome to sit and watch the ALP house of cards tumble. But it was also gut wrenching to see the CLP come sooo close and not get the final nod. After watching Hendersons speech last night it became obvious that he expects to scape back in, and dish out more of the same. We are far from being out of the dark ALP woods. But ever so much closer to some hope.

I think some congratulations are due to the people that have made this forum possible, I am sure that they have contributed in no small way.

Cheeers all...

Re: Vote CLP

yes well done by everyone, there's some realistic hope now and one would hope that some common sense will surface. I have some good CLP contacts and suggested that the have a push regarding the limit on the last day they were allowed to comment but they seemed too scared to risk any backlash with their fight against crime campaign. There are many young voters who weren't aware that CLP would remove demerrit points and return the open limit to Stuart Highway if electected so I personally think it cost us the 57 votes reqired. Most l spoke to were of the opinion that the law was set by the Feds and couldn't be changed so ignorance of the facts could have been the major stummbling block for victory

Re: Vote CLP

Well, it looks like the Australian Loosers Party have scraped back in. I heard Henderson today saying how it was the election campaign that caused the almost 10% swing against them. That says to me that he has no intention of changing any of their policies. He still doesnt know that it was ALP policies, incompetance, and arrogance that caused the 10% swing.

Here we go again guys, another 4 years of deadly road tolls and probably a 110k limit. So close and yet so far!! Lets hope for an early by election!!!

Re: Vote CLP

SCRUBY, is there no end to this A**HOLE!!!!

http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2009/08/13/74591_ntnews.html

THE NSW-based Pedestrian Council has threatened to warn tourists from visiting the Territory if the Country Liberal Party forms government and scraps the 130km/h speed limit.

It said "hillbilly politics" was risking the lives of Australians.

Former Labor Chief Minister Clare Martin introduced the controversial speed limit on NT highways in 2007

The CLP campaigned strongly against the change and still includes a return to the open road as a key policy.

Pedestrian Council chairman Harold Scruby said Territory roads had a death rate six times worst than the rest of the country.

"I am linking this to a cult of hillbilly politics coupled with unbridled apathy," he said.

Mr Scruby, who lives in NSW, said the speed limit was introduced after he threatened Ms Martin to launch a campaign warning tourists to stay away from the Territory.

With the possible return to a CLP Government, Mr Scruby yesterday reissued this threat.

"The only thing these people will listen to is commerce. They won't listen to the cost of life and limb," he said.

"Tourism around the country is suffering, and we'll help it along".

But former NT Businessman of the Year Dwyn Delaney hit back at the comments by the group from "down south".

"At the end of the day, these laws haven't changed anything," he said.

"I don't think they are hillbillies for wanting the freedom to drive down the road and not get hit by a radar," he said.

Mr Delaney said he was recently hit with a speeding ticket in Queensland.

"It is a beautiful day, a beautiful road, no car in sight and you can get pinged and lose your licence."

Mr Scruby said a road death costs the Australian economy $1.5 million in loss of taxes and medical expenses. A brain damaged or disabled road victim costs $18.5 million.

"The rest of the country shouldn't pay for the hillbilly politics of the Territory".

Re: Vote CLP
Harold Scruby is Australia's version of the USA's Ralph Nader. Let's look at some hardcore facts of Mr Nader:- Ralph doesn't have a car. He doesn't have a driver's licence. His mum still dons his socks and shoes before he leaves home every morning. His mum also puts his elastic bow tie on, and she ensures that it's straight. He makes anti car, and anti speed claims with the most fictitious bases. Speed doesn't kill. Stupidity kills. It kills in the same way baseless laws kill. Look at the standard of drivers, particularly in NSW and Victoria. It's all about speed, lane discipline doesn't matter. It's perfectly okay to sit in the outside lane of a motorway when not overtaking. But remember, you're doing no more than the speed limit, so you're perfectly safe, right? Having driven in over twenty countries, I have to say that the standard of NSW and Victorian drivers qualifies for public embarrassment. If we were to go to the second world war against Germany again, based on the NSW and Victorian driving standards alone, there's a pretty good chance we'd be speaking German. The laws in most Australian states certainly ensures that these low standards certainly aren't a fluke...
