To be honest everybody, I hate updating the road toll on this website and I hope someone will take the reigns and do it this year.
As stated previously, the NT Labor governments road laws introduced on 1 January 2007 have been a complete failure. Over the past two years the road toll has been 30% and 70% higher, respectively, than the last year (ie 2006) prior to the new road rules.
Also, the road toll in 2008 was the worst since 1987 when 84 people were killed on NT roads.
Unfortunately, the NT has already recorded a death on the roads and stands at 1. Personally, I think 2009 will definitely be better than 2008, only because statistically I do not think it can do worse.
2009 road toll so far - 1.
Your tired there Gecks - but update things - you do so well.
I'll get around to contacting CLP with ways and means to again implement a derestriction allowance per their ongoing comittment on the matter, even though the sign proper has been removed from Australian Standards - in an attempt to prevent MP's and parties from re-using it.
Never give in. Patience.
Fatigue not speed is the dominant factor in road accidents on the open road. This fact has been backed up with extensive research from Mercedes Benz who spent millions of $$ proving this. Even the ATSB, the governments own research body clearly states the fatigue is the problem rather than speed.
Our cash strapped Labor Government went down the same road as our southern neighbours by taxing the motorist without looking at the facts. They made an extra one million dollars in revenue last year from motorists even though they issued a lot less fines.
It’s a disgrace that people lives are exchanged for extra fine revenue just look at the evidence, numbers don’t lie.
Federal road funding was not tied to the implementation of the 130km/ph speed limit on our previously derestricted Territorian highways, despite popular belief.

At the last election the Labor government only won office by 67 votes in the marginal seat of Fanny Bay. We can make a difference if we spread the word and work together.
The road toll has kicked off, unfortunately, for 2009 in the NT. It stands at 2 compared to 0 as at the same time last year. Click on the police link below for confirmation:

According to the NT Police website, the NT road toll is 4 compared to 10 at the same time last year. Long overdue good news for a change.Link to website is below:
Haven't been on for quite a while and thought someone should update the road toll. To date, it is 10 compared to 25 at the same time last year, an outstanding result.
