HORROR!! NT transport minister caught speeding!!
06:30 AEST Mon Apr 12 2010
Northern Territory's Transport Minister Gerry McCarthy has been caught speeding on a local highway at 149km/h.
Mr McCarthy was driving his 4WD along the Stuart Highway between Tennant Creek and Alice Springs when he was clocked doing 19km/h hour more than the 130km/h speed limit, the NT News reports.
Police pulled Mr McCarthy over and issued him with an on-the-spot $200 fine and he lost three licence demerit points.
Mr McCarthy, who is also the state's planning minister, was forced to make a public apology for the offence.
"What happened yesterday should serve as a reminder to all motorists to be vigilant at all times and watch their speed carefully," Mr McCarthy said.
Mr McCarthy was on his way to a 3pm meeting on Saturday in Alice Springs when he was pulled over.
According to the NT News, the minister did not appear to be running late as he was stopped by police just 70km away from the town with an hour to spare.
Dear reader, I give you KARMA!
)))))
McCarthy, do the right thing this term, return (//) to replace your 130km/h zones.
Let the police focus on dangerous driving and lousy on-road behaviour.
Purchase a
hazard-warning triangle
for use at crash scenes and breakdowns, mandatory in Europe, the triangle is used to improve on the warning time given to approaching traffic. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901.
