Indigenous road deaths 3 times national average

The author of new research into the number of Indigenous road deaths says road conditions in remote areas need to be improved to reduce fatalities.
A report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has found Indigenous people are almost three times more likely to die in road accidents than non-Indigenous Australians.
Report author Geoff Henley has identified poor road conditions in remote communities, unsafe cars and distance from hospitals as key factors.
He says the situation is not improving sufficiently.

Re: Indigenous road deaths 3 times national average
I think the leading cause for accidents in communities is the alcohol / unsafe cars. If roads are bad, people will drive to the conditions (well, most people do).

Would be interesting to see the process that indigenous people in far reaching communities do to get a licence or if they even have one in the first place.

As for Mr Henley, maybe he can push for making the Stuart Highway a little better as that "situation is not improving sufficiently" either . . .
